We’re excited for FinOps X attendees to join us in San Diego. While you’re in town, we’re hoping you all make the most of the summer weather and check out the sights and sounds of the town.
San Diego is a city on the Pacific coast of California known for its beaches, parks and warm climate. It’s home to the immense Balboa Park, site of the renowned San Diego Zoo, as well as numerous art galleries, artist studios, museums and gardens. A deep harbor is home to a large active naval fleet, with the USS Midway, an aircraft-carrier-turned-museum which will be the venue for the event party.
Visitors can check out Balboa Park which features 16 unique gardens. These sites include the Japanese Friendship Garden, the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden (featuring over 2,400 rose bushes), and the Botanical Building, which features a fascinating collection of cycads, ferns, orchids and palms. You can sign up for a Botanic Building Garden Tour to learn about the origins, design, and horticulture that’s featured in the building. There are 15 other museums and a number of parks to explore, including the San Diego Zoo.
You can check out San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, which is known for its wonderful botanical collections. Both parks employ a team of horticulturists, arborists and gardeners who care for more than a millions plants. The Safari Park is known for its accredited collections, including Baja Garden, Old World Succulent Garden, Conifer Forest, figs, palms, and the Native Scapes Garden.
For garden lovers who want to get a bit of exercise in, the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas includes four miles of garden trails. These paths display a wide collection of native and endangered plants, a whimsical children’s garden, and the nation’s largest collection of bamboo species.

These restaurants source their goods from the surrounding farms and ocean, and restaurateurs who offer abundant high-quality ingredients. Amazing San Diego chefs in turn produce fantastic, environmentally responsible dishes. San Diego’s culinary scene is a burgeoning, vibrant mix of locally inspired flavors, from delightfully simple to sophisticated and artful. Its coasts and nearby Mexico has greatly influenced both the local cuisine and culture.
You can easily find both restaurants and vendors offering fish tacos to groundbreaking Cali-Baja fine dining, San Diego’s foodie scene sits at the intersection of two culinary styles: California cuisine, distinguished for its devotion to fresh local ingredients and farm-to-table roots, and Mexico’s Baja Med cuisine, a food revolution that combines traditional Mexican ingredients with those of the Mediterranean.
If you’re hanging out in Balboa Park, you can find numerous arts and culture offerings, including 17 museums and performing arts venues. San Diego is also home to two Tony® Award-winning theaters, historic sites, public art, music venues, dance performances, film festivals, galleries, missions and much more to explore
If you still have some energy after all of the FinOps X content and events, San Diego has many nightlife options in store for you. You can visit Downtown’s lively Gaslamp Quarter, where you can find rooftop bars, hot nightclubs ( featuring celebrity DJ’s), jazz clubs, and exciting restaurants that spill out onto the sidewalk. It’s not too difficult to find clubs that feature live music or stage shows with themes ranging from flamenco dance to burlesque.
